The internet Sith Lord has done it again (fyi, we always try to fit in a Star Wars joke any time we can).  Google, the ever powerful and all mighty internet deity, has released its newest service, Google Wave.  “Google Wave is an online tool for real-time communication and collaboration. A wave can be both a conversation and a document where people can discuss and work together using richly formatted text, photos, videos, maps, and more.” – Google Wave Website.  In honor of the release of this amazing communications service (you have to give props where it’s due), we’re giving you our editors 3 top choices to catch a wave surfing at your timeshare vacation.

1. Puerto Rico – Mi Gente!  This lush tropical getaway is home and heritage to not only some of your favorite actors, musicians and athletes like Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin and Roberto Clemente, but is also world renown for handing out some of the best waves to ride.  Puerto Rico is the Caribbean’s version of the North Shore of Hawaii. It is blessed with good surfing conditions all year and can get pretty big and powerful. It also has the Hawaiian localism to a certain extent. Surfing goes off in a big way in Puerto Rico, and tourism is big in the area. That said, quiet waves are still on offer if you are prepared to look.  Surfing in Puerto Rico has traditionally centered around Rincon, and although the waves are good so are the locals, and the wave is normally busy. A better bet for surf would be Dunes or Montones, with beginners being more suited to Punta Higuero.

2. California – If you are looking to surf in North America then head on out to California – there is great surf all the way down the coast. It is worth the trip to catch the big wave surfers riding the mountains of Maverick’s during the huge winter swells.  Get yourself a car and a couple of boards and cruise up and down Highway 1 between Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay. With the miles of beach breaks shared between Huntingdon Beach and Santa Cruz it makes you want to pack your bags right now! If you are looking for mild weather all year, easy quality waves to reach and surf, then California is the choice for you and you will not be disappointed. Top spots to visit if you get a chance are Steamer Lane, Malibu and Rincon.

3. Hawaii – This is a given.  This is the home of surfing.  The North Shore is the promised land for surfers, and with good reason. Look in any international surfing magazine and it will not take you too long to find a picture of a Hawaiian wave. It is a place truly blessed with top quality waves and swell. Each of the Hawaiian islands gets its share of the huge swells generated from October to March, but undoubtedly the North Shore is the place that receives the most attention. The location of its breaks makes surfing a fantastic spectator sport. Pipeline seems to breaks right off the beach, its almost like you are in the line up.
